"I especially enjoyed the performance of Jakob Lau Smith Tice, who portrayed Gollum, Smaug, King Bard, and William the Troll. Each of his characters was distinct and highly animated, and his impression of Andy Serkis’s Gollum was pretty well done. Since the character of Gollum has become iconic in recent years, I didn’t feel that his imitation of Mr. Serkis’s portrayal was out of order. "

"The centerpiece of the evening, though, is the action. The audience is treated to a swordfight in the opening scene of the play and it seems like the play is full of adrenaline and excitement as the story moves from one action scene to another. Fight choreographer Jakob Lau Smith Tice has given the evening some exciting moments . . . and the audience sees everything from high minded dueling to dirty fighting. "

"In the first of many twists on this classic, Charles Dickens himself comes on board to narrate at the top of the show. Actually, this was one of the best choices the company made. It was a device that I thought worked very well and was most appropriate to the venue. Jakob Lau Smith Tice physically and skillfully fit his role very well, narrating in a mellifluous voice and most ably discharging a couple of minor characters."

"The crowning achievement of this production was its incredibly staged combat scenes. Fight choreography by Jakob Lau Smith Tice kept the actors constantly engaged in believable combat using a variety of weapons. Each staged sword battle was noticeably different from every other, with each character possessing various levels of skill. "
